ARTIST STATEMENT
Persona
We all carry a persona that we take out for everyday use, whether it is just to get us through the day, allow us to fit or blend in, or hoping to become someone else if we pretend. Some personas we done for various aspects of our lives, some become us, some we become with time. In the golden era of Hollywood, film companies gave each actor or actress a persona to embody, one that could be marketed over and over again in films. They were given new names and titles, allowing the actors to fully transform into their new roles, and allowing the audience to believe that the actors and personas were one and the same, mostly through the glamorous publicity photos of the time. Now we appreciate and almost demand that stars can become something different role to role and crave to know of their off-screen lives, to know that they are like us and that we can be like them. The old stars however, did not seem to be like us, and never would be—they were untouchable and unattainable and that was part of the glamour. Their images and personas still appeal today—the glamour, the clothing, the attitudes continue to fascinate us and attract us to copy aspects of their personas and look.
